Michella Lane of Riverside, California was selected winner of the 2010 “The Look” Sport Clips’ National Stylists’ competition. She is a Stylist at the Marketplace on Grove Sport Clips in Ontario. Lane is one of five stylists who earned the honor to compete live at its recent national conference, “The Huddle,” in Las Vegas.
Judges Tommy Callahan and Julio Vegas of Paul Mitchell, Ron Villanueva of American Crew, and Ivan Zoot of Andis reviewed the hair design results after finalists set shears and clippers in motion on their models before a crowd of over 1,200 at the Las Vegas Rio resort. Lane’s winning style is a textured cut with extra length, accomplished using a point cutting method in order to eliminate any harsh, straight lines and finished with a razor to add depth and movement to the look. Ears and neckline are shattered and left more natural as opposed to hard lines, using American Crew’s Forming Cream as product. She receives $2,500, as well as new shears, a trophy. Her hair design will become a part of Sport Clips training, and a poster representing the style will be placed in stores across the country.
Runner up in the competition was Denise Carrizales of Lubbock Texas. She received $1,500, a feather razor, and a trophy. Honorable mention in the competition with a $1,000 prize was Jayme Interthal of Pittsburgh, and fourth and fifth place went to Sherrie Mier of Greensboro, North Carolina and Jen Updyke of Westminster, Colorado. All finalists received a logoed T-shirt and jacket, as well as travel and hotel accommodations in Las Vegas for the conference.
