WWW.CALIFORNIASTYLIST.COM Cosmetology Curriculum Review Advisory Task Force to Meet

The Board of Barbering and Cosmetology’s

Cosmetology Curriculum Review Advisory Task

Force will meet February 5-6, 2018 in Sacramento.

The meetings, which will begin at 10 a.m. both

days, will be held in Room 186 of the Department

of Consumer Affairs at 1747 North Market Blvd.,

Sacramento 95834.

The Board recognizes that the Barbering and

Cosmetology profession is constantly changing

and that it is necessary to periodically review and

update the curriculum. Bringing together Board

members, licensees and representatives of the

beauty industry and cosmetology schools, the

Task Force will review the state’s training require-

ment for cosmetologists to ensure the curriculum

reflects the profession as it is practiced in the

real world. Findings from this Task Force will be

included in a report that will be provided to the

Assembly Committee on Business and Profes-

sions and the Senate Committee on Business,

Professions, and Economic Development. (Pursu-

ant to Section 7303.2 (a) of the California Business

and Professions Code).

New Health and Safety Poster

If you haven’t already, be sure to download

a copy Board’s revised health and safety poster,

which goes into effect January 1, 2018. Like the

existing poster, it must be posted conspicuously

in the reception area of all barbering and cosme-

tology establishments and schools.

The old health and safety poster was large,

lengthy, typographically dense, and rarely, if

ever, read by the consumer during a visit to a

salon. This meant that the “Message to the Con-

sumer” portion of the poster – which the Board

believes to be the most important section for

consumers because it directs them to contact

the Board in the event of a complaint – went

largely unnoticed by the public. The new poster

can be downloaded from the Board’s Web site at an

d printed by licens-

ees themselves on a regular 8 ½ x11-inch sheet

of letter paper. If you’re unable to print out the

poster yourself, contact the Board at (800) 952-

5210 and one will be mailed to you.
