WWW.OHIOSTYLIST.COM Board of Cosmetology and Barber Merger

Beginning July 1, 2017, the Ohio State Board

of Cosmetology and the Ohio State Barber Board

initiated a cooperative plan designed to fulfill the

requirements of Ohio law to merge the opera-

tions of each agency into a new agency called the

State Cosmetology and Barber Board. This pro-

cess must be completed by January 21, 2018.

The new Board will reside in the current facility

of the existing Ohio State Board of Cosmetology

located at 1929 Gateway Circle, Grove City, Ohio.

The Ohio State Barber Board is currently planning

to move most of its staff, assets, and operations to

the new facility sometime after Thanksgiving Day.

After this move, until January 21, 2018, the

Ohio State Barber Board will continue to function

independent of the Ohio State Board of Cosme-

tology. The move is simply designed to minimize

any operational interruption of services during

the final transition in January 2018.

Additionally, the State Cosmetology and Bar-

ber Board will have a new website and new look.

This website is planned to open on January 21,

2018. More information will be forthcoming in

the near future.

Moving parallel to the merger is the joint de-

velopment of a new electronic licensing system,

called Elicense Ohio. This new system will take the

place of the current licensing system used by the

Ohio State Board of Cosmetology and the Ohio

State Barber Board, which will create a web-based

structure for examination scheduling, applying

for new licenses and license renewal, and updat-

ing licensee information.

The system design process provides both the

Ohio State Board of Cosmetology and the Ohio

State Barber Board an opportunity to coopera-

tively review and recommend improvements to

licensing, inspection, and examination processes

that will be used by the new State Cosmetology

and Barber Board. Project participants from both

Boards believe barbers and cosmetology licensees

will benefit from their collective wisdom and input.

Serial communiques explaining the new sys-

tem and how to access the features and services

will be mailed to licensees during the late winter

and spring of 2018.
