Nourish Yourself by Giving to Others

There

are so many ways to give, and many of

them don’t cost a thing.

Giving to others is one of the best ways to nour-

ish yourself and your business. While it’s important

to cultivate a culture of giving year-round, simple

gestures are even more expected and appreciated

during the holidays.

For example, many people you know— from

clients and co-workers to family and friends —will

come to you stressed out during this time. Be sure

to give them your fullest attention and LISTEN. For

clients, note something they talked about while

they were with you, and ask about it on their next

appointment. Small gestures like this really help

foster genuine connections that make people

want to be around you and give you their business.

For staff and co-workers, be honest and open.

Let people know you are there to help them. Offer

solid advice. This helps strengthen your relation-

ships in the workplace and allows you all to collec-

tively solve problems.

At the end of the year, take the time to thank

everyone for being so pleasant to work with. Offer

a small gift or thank you card. When people like

working with you, they’ll want to stay longer and

be more productive, which will enhance everyone’s

business!

You can also give to your business community. I

think it’s really important to stay involved and care

about community as a whole. It’s a great way to

not only build your network but also create solid,

lasting relationships. Serve on your neighborhood

design district improvement board, local Chamber

of Commerce, or something similar. Support a local

cause you care about. Teach a class. If you have the

resources, go around the neighborhood and offer

candy, cookies or bouquets to potential clients.

Include a gift certificate to come see you, or free

trial size products you sell, along with your busi-

ness card.

Finally, don’t forget to give to yourself. You can’t

pour from an empty cup, as they say. I take very

good care of my health so that I am able to function

well, and as a result, spread good vibes at work.

Every day, I get up and realize how grateful I am for

my health, and what a blessing it truly is to be alive

and healthy. There’s really no substitute for that!
