Department of Licensing Expects Fee Increase to be Effective December 1, 2009

In last month’s Northwest Stylist article there was information about the increased growth in the amount of licensees, which in turn has an increase on the Department of Licensing costs to support the program.

In addition, there was information about the Risk Based Inspection program that will be effective sometime in September or October of 2009. This program is a result of inspections or investigations of licensees that may be required to be inspected more frequently than the two year inspection cycle.

The Department has completed the analysis and will be notifying licensees of the proposed fee increase that will be needed to support these additional costs. There will also be notification of a public hearing where individuals can come and provide feedback into the record or ask questions. Watch for those notices to be coming in the mail and the proposed fees will also be published in this newspaper.

Health and Safety Tip: Nail Brushes and Neck Dusters

Nail brushes and neck dusters are prohibited unless you are able to sanitize and disinfect after each use. Both of these items can spread diseases from client to client or even to the operator. Use safe and sanitary practices when working on your clients nails and remember when you are trimming cuticles, you have provided an opening into the skin for diseases to be transmitted.

2009 Advisory Board Meeting Schedule

We will be conducting workshops directly after the Advisory Board meetings and all day long on the workshop dates. The workshops are for the re-write of the current law, RCW 18.16: The Law Relating to Barber, Cosmetologist, Manicuring and Esthetics. Everyone is invited to attend and join us as we work through this arduous task. This is an opportunity to be a part of the law making process and have a voice in the regulation of your industry.
